Apple Business Chat—Use full name. Can use Business Chat in second instance.

automation—Lowercase.

auto-routing—This feature should always be hyphenated regardless of whether or not a noun follows.

avatar—Avoid. Use profile photo or something similar.

C

campaigns—Capitalize only when discussing the product name.

card readers—Lowercase.

chats, conversations, messages—Use chat for internal communication sent through Teamchat. Use messages for external communication. Conversations can be used for either but should be about 2 or more messages.

composer—Use internally only. Avoid referring to it specifically, instead say, enter your message, enter your review, etc. If you must, say text editor.

customer—Avoid when possible to make sure copy works for all verticals, some of which would use patient or client.

Customer Interaction™—Avoid whenever possible.

dashboard—Don’t capitalize unless speaking specifically about the menu item.

drawer—Use internally only.

Google’s Business Messages. Shoot me now. Google is using possessives. Use Business Messages in second instance.

Google My Business—Use full name. Can use the abbreviation GMB in second instance. Also use listing for generic location.

Google My Business listing—Use full name. Can use GMB listing in second instance. Also use listing, lowercase, for generic location.

Help Center—Capitalized, two words.

leaderboard—Don’t capitalize unless speaking specifically about the menu item.

leads—Use sparingly. Can also use “potential customer.”

Lead Interaction™—Avoid whenever possible.

location—Don’t know why this needs to be said, but this should be lowercase.

Organized Inboxes™—Capitalize only when discussing the product name.

payments—Capitalize only when discussing the product name.

payment request—Lowercase

reviews—Capitalize only when discussing the product name. When talking about reviews in general do not capitalize.

subscriber—Use when talking about campaigns, subscriber lists, and segmentation. Otherwise “people” or “customers” should be used.

Teamchat—Capitalize only when discussing the product name.

variable—Lowercase.

verticals—Use internally only. Use industry.

Webchat—Capitalize when discussing the product name. One word. 

Z

ZIP code—All caps. Use postal code when possible to work for international geographies. 

Note: Avoid random capitalization. If you don’t know if it should be capitalized, don’t. We capitalize Podium terms that are trademarked and only when referring to them as a product. This style makes it difficult to be consistent, but until brand names aren’t generic we’re going to have to deal with it. Some examples:

  • You’ll find Customer Journey on the More Actions menu. / You can use the customer journey to track important touchpoints.
